...A few years ago I attended a workshop run by Richard and Sheila Ashworth. After years of infertility culminating in adopting one child and conceiving another through GIFT (gemete intra-fallopian transfer) I was feeling unable to move forward. The workshop helped enormously in the process of acceptance of my situation and enabled me to begin to see my life in a wider context than my child bearing (or not). One meditation in particular (which I still visualise even now) made me realise how much I had in my life that I valued. The workshop encouraged me to find some goals other than having babies thus moving the focus and begin to let go of the anger I felt.

Since that workshop my life has changed completely, I conceived a baby whilst on holiday and gave birth to a boy in February 1997. In 2000 my husband was diagnosed with cancer and died in May of that year. The seeds sown at the workshop (together with some really good counselling after Alan's death) helped me rebuild my life - I accept what has happened to me that I cannot change, I have learned to live with my situation and even to enjoy many aspects of my new found independence and strength. I am doing a degree (something I have meant to do since 1985!).

Richard has also done some feng shui work on my house and after a period of again feeling 'stuck' after Alan's death, both my children and I are beginning to move forward, even with some degrees of joy. It was good to have my feelings about my house and the way we were all feeling confirmed with the feng shui report and the small number of recommendations I have followed so far do seem to have an effect - call it co-incidence but it seems too great a one to me.

M. sleeps much better, bedtime is nowhere near so traumatic and the girls seem happy. The living room space is warm feeling and not too small as I feared. And P seems to be spending more and more time here.

I have always been interested in and fascinated by feng shui, but I had never realised that feng shui is done for personal use as much or even more than for the home, garden, business …etc.

I found the ba zi incredibly helpful in everyday life (eg the best time to be focused on important tasks) as much as in difficult situations or health problems, by just knowing more about myself and my lifestyle patterns.

Amongst lots of things, Richard helped me with, when I had my teeth pulled out I handled the whole situation extremely well and I am grateful for that.

Also thanks to Richard and the ba zi, I have started working with breath awareness, as this was an issue of mine: I used to smoke and I used to breathe in a very shallow way. By just being aware of the problems that it caused me, I have stopped smoking and health problems that I had had for quite a while have almost entirely gone.

About 4 years ago following a routine cervical smear test I received a call from my doctor requesting that I come in and see him urgently. He explained that I had an abnormality in my cell count, that it was quite high, but nothing to worry about "Right".

So I went home. Why? What was happening? What was this all about? I was well aware that dis-ease is of our own creation. An appointment was made for me to have the cells that were turning removed. But that was in about a week's time. Seven days of disease.

At this point I spent some time with my friend Richard, but not our usual hanging out arguing over who should make the tea time - a meeting with a clear intention to get my head and therefore my body straight. We looked back over my life, we talked about why this may have flared up in this part of my body. Focusing in on this was quite telling. I felt happy, loved, have a husband, family, friends, children, an inspiring job. I have good life. But looking back at specifics that my body had endured in that area we found many different issues.

We seemed to have disturbed a hornet's nest in my womb. We also talked about how sometimes subtly a tiny voice can be heard saying "go on, this is hard,go home, check out".

Richard encouraged me to sit with the feelings of dis-ease I had discovered and feel them through. He cautioned - Don't look to explain or quantify, just feel until it's been felt all the way through and you can let go.

At stressful times in my life this has become a regular practice. I assess discomfort in my body quickly now and the process has an effect of restorative sleep but with a clarity not normally found after waking.

Next we looked at each area and put positive statements and energy in place of the negativity. Put in sort of "electric fences" to protect the new clean area. Electric fences is a good metaphor because when an unhelpful or potentially damaging thought came I would feel the alarm raised, notice, feel, release.

Finally Richard set me the task of talking to myself at night as I fell asleep - specifically to my pituitary gland. Thanking it for bringing my troubles to my attention and requesting that now in a state of awareness I wanted the disease withdrawn. I took responsibility and followed his instructions.

The next count was zero immediately. I am completely clear that the work I did with Richard was what aired the whole me and will prevent future outbreak. Whatever eventually causes my physical death it's not going to be cancer in that region of my body. I have new things to learn.

One final thing, I am blessed to have a strong friendship with Richard and he knows perhaps as much about me as anyone. But he sensed my need to be allowed to have some things private. He said "you know what they are, deal with them in the way we have dealt with the other stuff."

This meant a huge amount to me, perhaps because I live such a public life. I welcomed being trusted and inspired to help cure myself.

No invasion, no being patronised, no being deemed helpless.

What does Richard give when he helps people? I've been thinking about that for the last 48 hours whilst preparing this testimonial.

A set of skills to enable you to take charge of your welfare, support as you take responsibility, love when you struggle and some good old fashioned uncomfortable reflection when you're pretending to.

You'll be pleased to know he makes lousy tea!

I had a bought a popular book on the subject to try and Feng Shui my home but found it confusing and frustrating to work with. Then a friend recommended Richard's work.

Richard arrived at our home early one morning. We went from room to room and I recorded parts of our discussion on a dictaphone, I also made notes and as he had offered telephone backup, I was able to ask further questions later on. I found his observations accurate and insightful and his explanations realistic and user friendly.

The survey highlighted the major issues that were stopping me from living my life simply, blissfully and truthfully. Having identified and begun work to resolve them, I feel it was an empowering and positive experience in more ways than I could have imagined. A positive investment in every way.

It's difficult to know where to begin when it comes to writing this testimonial since the approach that Richard took over the five sessions was eclectic to say the least, though in retrospect it is amazing to see how the differences were so integrated into the whole healing process. The initial ba zi reading was fascinating to observe as Richard scrawled away in Chinese figures, constantly informing me of their meanings and happy to answer all the questions that I posed. The simplistic understanding I had of Chinese astrology was thus vastly increased. From the ba zi reading we headed into the following sessions armed with a foundation from which to build and it was from here that Richard was able to bring into it his vast knowledge of feng shui and NLP, as well as a lifetime of experience.

The specific anxiety issues that we addressed were improved after the sessions to the extent that I was able to come off the medication that my doctor had prescribed. Initially this was difficult, but as time has gone on I am amazed at the difference that has been produced and my ability now to do the things that I would not have done in the past. Richard helped me to get the ball rolling and now I am reaping the benefits, and he has enabled me to quantify and bring together what were previously just random thought processes. From a general perspective, a clearer understanding of myself and the direction I should take has consequently emerged: I'd recommend it to anyone.

...(Film Company) just called. I have been awaiting their response to the latest round of deal negotiations.They have offered more money per film which is great but actually that was expected. The thing that was striking - particularly as that little fountain had only been in place for 48 hours, is that they have offered me a huge bonus for (recent hit movie) which they are not at all obliged to do. It is over double the bonus they paid for the last film.
